National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated in the United States from September 15 through October 15. The observance recognizes the histories, cultures, achievements, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.
The starting date carries special significance. September 15 is the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico celebrates its Independence Day on September 16, followed by Chile on September 18.
The national observance began as Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968 and was expanded to a month-long celebration in 1988. Today, Hispanic Heritage Month creates an opportunity to learn, share stories, recognize traditions, and celebrate the many ways Hispanic and Latino communities have shaped the United States.
At Felipe’s, the celebration also gives us a chance to recognize the people, flavors, and traditions that inspire what we do every day. Food has a special way of bringing people together. A taco shared over lunch or dinner can open the door to connection, conversation, and a deeper appreciation for the traditions behind it.
Felipe’s has been proudly serving award-winning Mexican cuisine since opening in New Orleans in 2006. As a family-owned, New Orleans-based restaurant group, we are grateful to serve communities across Southeast Louisiana and Southwest Florida.
Our tacos begin with fresh ingredients and a scratch kitchen. Guests can choose a soft corn tortilla, flour tortilla, or crunchy shell, select their protein, and finish the taco with their favorite toppings and house-made salsas. It is make-it-your-way Mexican food, so your free taco can be as simple, bold, traditional, or creative as you want it to be.
Choose a favorite such as chicken, carnitas, ground beef, or grilled vegetables, then add ingredients that make it yours. Go bright with pico de gallo, add richness with Monterey Jack cheese or crema, bring some heat with salsa, or finish it with fresh guacamole. At Felipe’s, guac is not extra, and the first cheese on your entrée is on us.
Want steak or shrimp instead? You can upgrade your taco for an additional charge. Other added proteins, premium toppings, and extras will also cost additional.
One free taco is a great beginning, but there are plenty of ways to turn September 15 into a full Felipe’s celebration.
Start with scratch-made chips paired with queso, salsa, or fresh guacamole. Add another taco, build a Super Burrito, order a quesadilla, or create a bowl with your favorite combination of rice, beans, protein, vegetables, and salsa. Because Felipe’s menu is customizable, everyone at the table can build a meal that fits their taste.
Adults can pair their food with one of Felipe’s hand-squeezed Key Lime Margaritas, served Rocks or Frozen. Our house-made red sangria, beer, and nonalcoholic options also make it easy to raise a glass to the start of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Whether you visit for a quick lunch, an after-work taco, or dinner with friends, our team is ready to help you celebrate.
The Hispanic Heritage Month free taco offer is available at all six Felipe’s Mexican Taqueria restaurants on September 15, 2026:
From Uptown, Mid-City, and the French Quarter to Metairie Road, Park Shore Plaza, and Logan Landings, guests throughout the New Orleans and Naples areas can join the celebration.
The free taco has no cash value and cannot be combined with another discount or promotional offer.
Hispanic Heritage Month is a celebration of culture, history, creativity, resilience, and community. It is also an invitation to listen, learn, gather, and enjoy the traditions that connect generations.
Felipe’s is proud to begin the celebration alongside the guests and communities who support our restaurants throughout the year. On Tuesday, September 15, bring your appetite, open the Felipe’s app, and join us for a free taco with any purchase.
Six restaurants. Two states. One delicious way to start Hispanic Heritage Month.
¡Nos vemos en Felipe’s!
