July 24 is National Tequila Day, and Felipe’s Taqueria has a very special Herradura tequila available to complement our range of authentic Mexican specialties.
In 2014, the Felipe’s team went to the Herradura distillery in Jalisco, Mexico and tasted barrel after barrel of their special double barrel Reposado tequila. After hour four of tasting tequila, we finally stumbled on the barrel that was the perfect flavor balance for Felipe’s.
This limited production double reposado tequila is one that is aged for up to 12 months in a charred oak barrel and then re-barreled into a virgin white oak barrel for one month more. The result for the barrel we chose is a complex, sweet and smoky tequila with smooth notes of vanilla and caramel.
If you’re a beginner or an old pro, this tequila is a truly wonderful experience to sample. We recommend it shaken in our top shelf margarita, stirred up in an old fashioned instead of bourbon, or for the true tequila aficionado, served up neat.
