We would like to congratulate Javier Castellon, on being the inaugural recipient of Felipe’s $40,000 Son of a Saint Mentee Scholarship!
Javier has been a Son of a Saint mentee since 2011 and started working for our sister company @pinkberrynola at the age of 15. Now a rising senior with a 4.0 GPA, he brings a hard work ethic and positive attitude to every shift he works at Pinkberry Mid City. We could not be more proud of his success and where it will take him in his future, as he plans to study architecture in college.
“I couldn’t be more thankful for the community and opportunity that’s been provided to me.” said Castellon.
The Felipe’s and Pinkberry Nola teams have been long time supporters of Son of a Saint. This summer we began brainstorming ways to further support SOAS. We finalized a plan to offer a $10k a year college scholarship to a mentee who maintains at least a 3.0 GPA. We are currently in the process of selecting our next Son of a Saint mentee to be part of our scholarship program.
Son of a Saint exists to enhance the lives of fatherless boys through mentorship, emotional support, development of life skills, exposure to constructive experiences, and formation of positive, lasting peer-to-peer relationships.
“Turning our friendship into a partnership to benefit the growth and development of young men in New Orleans has been a wonderful experience,” said Lon Nichols, Felipe’s HR Director and 2014 SOAS Mentor of the Year. “At Felipe’s, we’re all about community and we strongly believe in the mission behind Son of a Saint. Whether working a shift here or participating in the program there, we’re ensuring we provide an opportunity for professional advancement and building confidence within the next generation’s leaders.”
